Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) runs a nightclub in Casablanca. He is surprised when his former love, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), arrives in town with her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid). Laszlo is a well-known rebel, and since the Germans are after him, Ilsa turns to Rick for help so they can escape the country.
